MobileChat on the iPod Touch?

So by now, everyone knows. I’m tired, not in the mood to comment on the iPod itself, so let’s get down to business, here’s our official stance:

We’re going to do everything in our power to get MobileChat running on the iPod Touch. What we will not do, is maintain two separate code bases entirely. We have no more insight on this then you guys do, from where we stand, it looks everything is pretty much the same

The biggest possible difference however is that the iPhone runs an ARM processor, where as the iPod Touch might run something different. To break that down into near laymen’s terms, if thats the case, it would be like running a PPC app on your new iMac without Rosetta, it just won’t work as the processor wouldn’t be able to interpret the instructions.

With that said, it’s only a matter of time before the iPod Touch is torn out of whatever “jail” it might be in and we get 3rd party development. We’re most likely going to need a separate toolchain for the iPod Touch, so don’t expect to unbox your new iPhone Touch September 28th and start chatting with friends. Granted we all have the iPhone experience to fall back on, it might take a few days/weeks to get a new toolchain running and compiling iPod Touch app’s.

We’re all very excited about the new user base the iPod Touch will bring, so we’re definitely looking forward to getting MobileChat to run on it!

Update: Good news! Gizmodo is reporting that their “inside sources” at Apple are saying the iPod Touch runs the “same damn binaries” as the iPhone! This means once you can load to the iPod Touch, we’ll be good to go!

Well I preordered the iPod touch just after the announcement and have been looking around for a chat app for it, so I definitly fall into the new userbase :)

Looking forward to the iPod Touch and looking forward to hopefully using MobileChat on it :)

I’m from the UK so can’t really get an iPhone although now it’s unlocked technically I could but the phone part of it pretty much sucks (looking beyond the good looks) so to be able to get a Touch and have this working on it would be great so keep up the good work guys and hopefully it’ll be easy to port :)
