AppleTV RSS Plugin Beta 1 Available
We’re releasing another plugin for AppleTV.
This is a basic RSS Feed reader and will read RSS1.x/2.x feeds, it however will not read ATOM feeds at this time. The streams are customizeable from user to user.
First off, here’s the picture of the RSS plugin in action:
Once you download the program below, you’re going to get a folder with two things:
A folder called RSSAppliance.frappliance and a file called rss.feeds
“RSSAppliance.frappliance” goes in Contents/PlugIns of your AppleTV Finder/BackRow application.
“rss.feeds” goes in your User Directory, for me thats /Users/Shaun for you it might be /Users/Joe.
rss.feeds is where you can customize what feeds are displayed and in what order. You’ll get a sample file of how to set it up, please follow that template. It goes: FeedURL|FeedName; if it’s not in that format, it will ignore the line, if the entire file is messed up, it’s going to throw an error.
The last bit of extremely important information is this can not run with our Sports Scores plugin at this time. It causes the AppleTV app to continuously crash and and respawn until you turn off the device. We’re working to resolve this issue, but the AppleTV plugin technology is new to everyone, so give us a bit of time and we’ll get it right :)!

Update: We’ve been dugg! I’ve read through some of the comments on the Digg page and wanted to respond to two of them:
1. We are going to be integrating Video RSS Feeds into this plugin in the near future. Yes AppleTV supports Video RSS feeds (as well as regular podcasts) through iTunes, but you have to sync to your hard drive and you can’t stream as far as I know. This will allow you to stream directly from the RSS feed, no syncing or streaming from another computer needed.
2. This is still an early beta, we’re going to try to add as much support to it as possible as we learn more about the AppleTV. ATOM feed support is coming, we’re going to try to extract images from the feeds and display them, and some other stuff like that. Stay tuned as we’re just getting started.
