XviD/DivX/Etc.. On the AppleTV
Well, since everyone is linking to our Codec Pack blog post about this I figured I’d finally write something about it.
While our lawyers insist we don’t tell you how to do actually do this, as their confident Apple won’t be be pleased, I’m sure you already know how. If you don’t, theres a forum that is insanely obsessed with macs that you can find over at their dot com, and learn how to enable SSH and all that good stuff.
Once your get those instructions, the OS X Codec Pack we posted last December is all you really need. Drop those component files in the indicated location by the directions you found online and your AppleTV will be playing non-AppleTV formatted videos in no time.
Theres also a few AppleTV plugins (frappliance) available to let you do a few different things like browse files directly, and not go through iTunes, and some other stuff.
For those of you who are running the AppleTV BackRow app on your Intel Mac’s this will work for you as well.
If you go to the blog post linked above, be sure to download the Intel pack and not the PPC, Or you can download them from here:

Oh and, just a cheap plug here, be sure to check out the latest OS X App from twenty08 over at quickshareit.com.
Enjoy!
Actually, your “OS X Codec Pack” is outdated. Please put out a new version with Perian 1.0 in it.
